Text Overload

Text Overload

Many information-rich sites suffer from text overload. The problem is that designers and marketers are eager to communicate everything they can about their products or services and frequently end up communicating too much. The end result is a product page that scrolls forever and discourages the information gatherer. In our testing we have seen and heard this over and over. A potential solution is to take advantage of what we will call information pop-ups (image 3).

As opposed to the annoying advertising pop-ups, information pop-ups are provided as links on a product page and instead of linking to another page they provide additional information about a product or service. This information is more detailed than that found on the main product page and is only going to be of interest to a smaller segment of your site visitors. At the same time it is extremely important to that smaller segment and can make the difference between success and failure on the site. image 3
