A Task-Based Online Usability Study, sometimes referred to as Remote Usability Testing, employs a panel of online users to perform a series of tasks. These user panels are composed of pre-qualified users that Usability Sciences will recruit, or from a client-defined pool of targeted users, such as site customers or employees.
The Task-Based Online Usability Study is ideal for clients who want to conduct usability tests with large number of users, want users from many geographical locations participating in the study, or need to quantify usability findings. Most clients use this research methodology to create various kinds of quantitative benchmarks prior to making significant changes to their site.
Invitations to participate in the study (with or without an incentive) are generally sent by email to targeted panelists. Once interested participants opt in, they are presented with a series of tasks followed by questions designed to measure their success and to identify difficulties with completing each task. Task completion times, successful task completions, and a complete click stream path by task are captured and recorded. Like our other Online User Experience Research services, the Task-Based Online Usability Study is powered by our WebIQ® technology.
Once a pre-determined number of participants have completed the study, a data export is delivered in spreadsheet format followed by a detailed report. The analysis report will contain by task:
